Girl Scouts
Mission: To inspire girls with the highest ideals of character, conduct patriotism and service, that they may become happy and resourceful citizens
Bridgeport is a Service Unit within the Black Diamond Girl Scout Council. As an organization, the BDGSC is committed to achieve pluralism and racial/ethnic diversity; to practice affirmative action; and to inspire the personal commitment of each member to these goals.
Girls are served in three ways: by troops, by activities set up through the Service Unit, and through programs provided directly by the council. They are organized according to their age:
Daisy Girl Scouts age 5
Brownie Girl Scouts ages 6-8 (grades 1-3)
Junior Girl Scouts ages 9-11 (grades 4-6)
Cadette Girl Scouts ages 12-14(grades 7-9)
Senior Girl Scouts ages 15-17 (grades 10-12)
Registration: an event is held in the summer of the fall to organize troops. However, girls may join at any time. Most troops meet bi-weekly on the day, time, and place determined by the Troop Leader. (All Leaders are volunteers (parents) that take training and are screened according to the Girl Scout procedure.)
