Safety & Facilities Manager

Job Summary:

Under the general direction of the City Manager, the Safety & Facilities Manager works to prevent workplace accidents and promotes health and safety awareness and education to city employees. This position is responsible for making sure employees follow health and safety laws and creates policies for a safer work environment. He/she must take measures to identify potential workplace hazards and improve existing conditions. The Safety Manager must have the ability to work with all levels of employees to create a safe workplace. Duties: Develop and implement safety training programs; Implement, monitor, & maintain safety procedures and practices; Complete governmental, internal, and other reports; Implement accident prevention programs; Maintain chemical inventory and Safety Data Sheets Database; Serve as liaison to applicable governmental agencies; Oversee the first aid responder program; Provide training in required safety and environmental programs to all levels of employees; Oversee the safety teams and committee; Implement policies and procedures to ensure safe working environment; Manage hazardous materials and waste programs; Cooperate with other department heads and employees through open communication and appropriate problem-solving techniques. Perform and coordinate internal safety inspections; Inspect, maintain, and oversee repairs of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems to ensure optimal operating results; Coordinate maintenance of all buildings and grounds owned and operated by the municipality; Determine and schedule repairs or renovation projects; Execute equipment audits and inventory. This position will perform other duties and responsibilities as apparent or as delegated.

High school diploma or GED required. Knowledge of safety training & basic building maintenance with 2 years’ experience in safety management preferred. Bachelor’s degree in Health & Safety, Environmental Health, or related field preferred.
