Historic Wood Windows Workshop

This one-day workshop is based on the hands-on approach with the goal of participants learning skills needed to rehabilitate a historic wooden window to Class II status - Stabilization, according to the National Park Service’s Preservation Brief # 9. Participants will learn how to make repairs on historic wooden windows in a historically-correct, safe, and timely manner per National Park Service standards.

This workshop will include a hands-on demonstration in which participants will learn about wood consolidates and fillers, how to remove and install window sashes, how to safely remove paint and glass, how to cut glass, the re-roping process, and how to prime, glaze, and paint a historic wooden window. Participants will also learn how to do an evaluation of a window and about hazardous materials found in the home. Anna Lynn Stasick, PAWV’s statewide field services representative, will lead the workshop. Stasick has led workshops of this manner for over 7 years, has over 20 years of contracting experience, and has rehabilitated dozens of historic wooden windows. The cost of the workshop is $15 if you are a member of either PAWV or the Harrison County WV Historical Society. For nonmembers, the cost is $25. Lunch will be provided. Space is limited so sign up today by contacting Crystal Wimer at hcwvhs@gmail.com.
