A MESSAGE FROM THE FIRE CHIEF:
The Bridgeport City Fire Department is made up of a combination department utilizing a full-time paid staff of 23 members along with a volunteer division with approximately 20 members. We handle Fire/Rescue, search and rescue operations, hazardous material response, and water rescues and EMS calls and are on many calls every day. In 2009, we responded to a total of 2201 calls with 1,800 consisting of Emergency Medical Calls and 401 on all other calls. These responses included all fires (structure, vehicle, trash, brush, dumpster, electrical and outdoor), emergency medical calls (ALS- advanced life support, BLS- basic life support, and first responder), auto accidents, rescues, special assignments, bomb threats, hazardous materials incidents, Aircraft standby and mutual aid calls.
All members of the department strive to make our community a safe environment to work and visit. I encourage anyone, whether they be a citizen or visitor, to stop by our station so that we can meet you on a personal basis.
