Main St. Bridgeport, WV 26330 A message from the Director: The community development department is a fast paced department that oversees all development that occurs in the city. We enforce the state building code, municipal zoning regulations, long term planning, and provide economic development support to the city manager, mayor, and city council. Our goal is to ensure the citizens of Bridgeport an excellent quality of life through guidance and control of development. Pertaining to building codes, we currently enforce the 2003 edition of the IBC. We review and issue all building permits and provide certified inspections in the field to verify compliance. In addition to new construction supervision and an equally important part of the building code enforcement division is to monitor the existing structures in the city thus protecting the property values of our neighborhoods. We also handle zoning requests, concerns, etc to make sure the zoning code is complied with and to ensure compliance to our comprehensive plan. The department director is a voting member of the Bridgeport Planning Commission and serves as technical advisor to the Board of Zoning Appeals.
