A message from the Director: 304-842-8218
The Community Development Department is a fast paced department that coordinates all structural development and land use planning throughout the city. We administer the state building code, zoning regulations, planning, and provide economic development support to the City Manager, Mayor, and City Council. Our mission is to ensure the citizens of Bridgeport an excellent quality of life through properly designed and controlled growth.
We utilize through the state of West Virginia the 2009 edition of the IBC and its affiliated codes as our official building standards. We Fred Burton
review and issue all building permits and provide certified inspections Code Enforcement Officer
for all projects. In addition, we have an aggressive property 304-842-8236
maintenance division that monitors our existing structures to ensure they maintain compliance thus protecting the property values of our city. We also handle all zoning issues that may arise to verify the municipal zoning regulations are adhered to. Finally, we provide input through the city’s annual strategic planning conference on all long term planning matters which allows us to facilitate the perpetual five year update of our comprehensive plan. The director is a voting member of the Planning Commission and serves as technical advisor to the Board of Zoning Appealsand Building Code Appeals Board. Mike Osborn
